BENEFITS OF ANODISING OVER PPC AND PVF2

Benefit
Which Means That
Notes
Proven durability, anodising has been in use architecturally for 50 years plus. Client has more comfort that in the long term his building will last. Polyester Powder coating has now field experience of approx. 20 years.
Anodising is integral with the metal not an applied finish. No possible adhesion or joint corrosion problems.
Not susceptible to filiform corrosion.
Properly done green chromate pre-treatment prior to PPC has been very successful in UK.
Finishes can be completely fade-free. There will be no colour change whatsoever over the life of the building. All organic coating finishes change with time.
More scratch and abrasion resistant. Less prone to damage particularly in high traffic areas. Also neglected finishes can be restored by abrasive cleaning (Scotch brite). Properly processed anodising is harder than glass. Indeed it is not scratched by glass paper.
Resistant to filiform corrosion Metallic Lustre. No performance concerns, particularly in coastal environments. As the film is transparent the aluminium substrate shows through giving metallic look. Concerns, particularly in mainland Europe, on PPC performance. Metallic powders are available which attempt to replicate this.
Resistant to Chloride & Sulphate. More durable in city and marine atmospheres. All organic coatings are permeable.
Film thickness is more controllable 25µ-35µ rather than 40µ à 120µ Pieces fit together more easily and sharp corners on extrusions are retained which is aesthetically more pleasing. The skill of the powder coater can reduce spread.
Tests are mainly non- destructive. High percentage can be properly checked either in plant or on site giving client comfort. Tests on Polyester Powder coating for adhesion and cure must be done on sample panels and not on the actual job.
Anodising is a dip rather than a spray process. Better overall coverage of extrusion profile. Even non-seen faces have good durability.

Benefits of Anodising over PVF2

In addition to the benefits over PPC the benefits over PVF2 are:

Rejected components can easily be stripped and reprocessed in plant. Internal rejects can be reprocessed Recoating, with its inherent adhesion problems, is the only solution on PVF2
Solvent free No harmful VOC's used Environmentally better
Much more scratch resistant Less site damage PVF2 is softer than PPC, which is much softer than anodising.
